COLUMB AND PHILLIPS

New Zealand‘s Scotty Columb remains sixth overall in the MX1 class as Brad Anderson marched away to win the British Motocross Championships title at the weekend.
Suzuki’s Columb, from Queenstown, just last week named a member of New Zealand’s three-rider team for the Motocross of Nations in Italy, finished 12th at the weekend’s rain-shorted penultimate seventh round of the series in Scotland.
But nobody could stop Honda’s Anderson, who won the MX1 race at Dun to wrap up the MX1 crown with a round up his sleeve.
In the MX2 class, it was Scotsman Shaun Simpson (KTM) who won the day, but it was fellow Scot Stephen Sword (KTM) who wrapped the MX2 title when he finished the race in the runner-up position.
Sword (KTM) missed a round in the middle of the season proved once again he is one of the greats of British MX2 motocross history, winning his fourth championship.
New Zealand’s Michael Phillips recorded the same result as fellow Kiwi Columb, coming home 12th in the only MX2 race of the day.

Rotorua’s Phillips (Honda) — also in the New Zealand Motocross of Nations team — is 14th in the MX2 championships standings. He had been forced out of the competition mid-season because of injury.
The final round of the championship will take place at Landrake in Cornwall on September 27 where the remaining championship positions will be decided.
