STILL BATTLING AWAY
Hawke’s Bay’s Kieran Scheele is temporarily sidelined from race action in the United Kingdom, but the young rider is putting a brave face on his situation.
The Kiwi DBG Suzuki Team rider has been helping the rest of the team – fellow New Zealanders Bjarne Fredericksen, John Phillips and Emma Davis – to keep the Kiwi profile flying high in England.
“All is going well. I had my shoulder surgery two weeks ago and my surgeon Carlos was great and said it went perfect. I go for my check-up tomorrow afternoon to get another x-ray and see if all is healing well.
“Two days after my surgery the team was heading to Belgium to get some training in the sand before the following British round. Couldn’t miss out on that so took my pain killers and hit the road with the team.
“We stayed at a camp site in Lommel … weather was perfect the whole time we were there couldn’t have asked for better.
“First day we crossed over (the English Channel) we stopped at Dunkirk in France for the boys to have a ride there. For me I just helped stop watch John and gave advice on corners, etc. Second day we headed to the famous Honda Park in Belgium to meet up with Ben Townley there and train some more.
“It was great meeting Ben and watching him train for his second ride back. It was more the same with stop-watching the boys and helping them learn to ride in the sand just by watching how Ben and some fast locals were doing it.
“We had (Taupo’s) Cam Dillon to cruise around the track with and watch, so was good to have another kiwi accent around. Did the same the next day at Honda Park then on our rest day took a trip into Holland to look around while the mechanics checked the bikes over.
“Then we were off to the Lommel GP track the next day for the boys to put in some solid motos before the weekend.
“On the way out of Europe we stopped into France to Dunkirk again to practise corners and a few other things. Once back in England, it was getting ready for the weekend and went off to Lyng (in Norfolk) for the third round of the British Champs.
“The guys did well and the track looked awesome. It was hard watching from the sidelines.
“I’m back on the spin cycle twice a day and also working on leg strength and core fitness to keep me busy until I can start working on my shoulder.
“Hopefully all is mending well and I will be back out there soon.”
