Talented Kiwi videographer Derek Morrison left his Dunedin base to travel the country chasing some of the rising stars of New Zealand junior motocross.
His film we feature here is centred around a selection of New Zealand’s top 85cc riders talking about their heroes and their rivals.
Filmed in a relaxed environment and at home, and at their local motocross track, this film showcases the personalities of the riders, their approach to racing, their heroes and rivals.
The film opens with Kiwi and international rider Nixon Coppins talking about his dad, the legendary Josh Coppins, and then his rivals here in New Zealand.
Eli Giles discusses how he manages his diabetes while racing at the top level in New Zealand.
The film also features Sam Gray talking about his heroes and why he’s so good at starts plus how he is going to peg back racers such as Nixon, Eli and Levi McMaster.
Nicholas Oakshott reveals which parent is responsible for his flowing mullet, his love for chickens … and his ambition in racing.
The quietly spoken McMaster completes the film sharing his passion for racing and how he has more national titles than his car-racing father, Cody.
The rivalries are real and fun, exacted in a good-natured way.
This film includes footage from Round 1 and Round 2 of the MX85 Cup held alongside the 2026 New Zealand Motocross Championship in Invercargill and Balclutha.
