Round four of the Canadian motocross nationals moved east from Calgary to Morden last weekend, where race fans at Manitoba’s Shadow Valley Raceway witnessed the start of the fight-back by defending champion Colton Facciotti.

The Yamaha ace had scored no points at the previous round in Calgary after a huge get-off saw him taken to hospital, but he more than made up for that by winning both MX1 motos at the round four event in Manitoba.

After a visit to his doctor during the week, Facciotti was cleared to race and, defying the odds, he dominated both motos with a clean sweep at Shadow Valley Raceway.

Meanwhile, his team-mate Dusty Klatt was in the runner-up position finishing 2-2 to give the team a 1-2 punch before the series takes a three-week break.

Facciotti is second in the championship chase, just 10 points behind Suzuki’s Bobby Kiniry — who finished 4-5 at Shadow Valley – while Klatt is fourth in the standings, just two points behind Kawasaki’s Josh Demuth and 24 behind Kiniry.

New Zealand’s Mason Phillips (Kawasaki) was also in the points at Shadow Valley.

The Mount Maunganui man finished fifth and 12th in his two outings, to make sure he remains among the top 10 in the championship standings.

Phillips (pictured above) is sixth overall after four rounds.

In the MX2 class, Team Yamaha Red Bull Fox Racing’s Tyler Medaglia continued his focus on maintaining his 17-point lead at the top of the standings over Kawasaki’s Teddy Maier.

With a 2-3 finish to match Maier’s 3-2 finish, the gap between them remained the same when the day was over.

Kawasaki’s Shawn Rife is third in the standings, with KTM’s Eric Nye in fourth position.

New Zealand’s Rhys Carter (Kawasaki) was a non starter at Shadow Valley, having returned home with injury. Despite scoring no points at rounds three and four, Carter is, remarkably, still 16th in the championship standings.
