Most, in the Czech Republic, hosted round six of the 2022 World Superbike Championships at the weekend, with Spain’s Alvaro Bautisa and Turkey’s Toprak Razgatlioglu sharing the wins.
For Bautista, his race one win meant Ducati could celebrate their 1000th WSBK podium, while Razgatlioglu’s win in race two enabled Yamaha to celebrate their 100th WSBK victory.
Starting from fourth position, Bautista was up to third in the first corner and he stuck with Razgatlioglu and Britain’s multi-time WSBK champion Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki).
The Spaniard gained confidence and on lap-10 he made a spectacular double overtake to snatch the lead and close with margin under the chequered flag.
Razgatlioglu claimed it was tyre conservation that gave him the edge in race two.
After reducing the championship deficit thanks to victory over Rea in the Superpole race, Razgatlioglu then got the better of Bautista in race two at Most, marking the second consecutive round where he finished as the highest points scorer.
A constant theme throughout the titanic 2022 title fight, all three riders spent time leading the race, however, it was Razgatlioglu who had saved more rear tyre in order to attack late on.
“I was very happy with this (race one) victory,” said Bautista afterwards. “We have achieved a historic result for Ducati and to be the rider who took podium number 1000 fills me with pride.
“To have done it with the first place is then something exciting. I think I did a very good race, I found more and more feeling, lap by lap, and the battle between Johnny and Toprak in the early laps, if I have to be honest, helped me to stay close to them.”
