It was day one of two at the annual King of the Mountain motocross in Taranaki yesterday.
Held in the shadow of a recently snow-dusted Mount Taranaki, the junior grade action on Saturday was intense, made more thrilling by the fact that this was the first time the completely re-designed track at Barrett Road, on the outskirts of New Plymnouth, had been used.
Hard work by Taranaki Motorcycle Club members had transformed the already-popular circuit into something that was quite spectacular and the riders all seemed to enjoy the new contours.
The seniors will take to the track today for day two, with two-time and current women’s motocross world No.1 Courtney Duncan and fellow Kiwi internationals Josiah Natzke and Cody Cooper the draw-cards.
Here are a few snaps from Saturday’s junior racing, just to whet the appetite.
This event is an ideal build-up to next weekend’s 60th annual New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville.
