The 17th round of 20 in this year’s FIM Motocross World Championships were held in Bulgaria at the weekend.
And, once again, it was a dominant performance by multi-time former MX2 world champion Jeffery Herlings in the premier MXGP class, the flying Dutchman scoring back-to-back wins on the hillsides of Sevlievo and this means time is running out for nine-time world champion Antonio Cairoli in his bid to equal Begian Stefan Everts as a 10-time world champion this year.
Herlings and Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team-mate Jorge Prado each extended their current points leads in Bulgaria with overall wins in MXGP and MX2 respectively, with just three rounds now remaining in the championships
The next race, round 18, will take place in Afyon, Turkey, this coming weekend and then many of the riders will head off to represent their respective countries at the Motocross of Nations in the United States in October.
Team Great Britain was finally named for the MXoN yesterday, with Tommy Searle, Ben Watson and Max Anstie to fly the Union Jack flag at Red Bud, Michigan on October 6-7.
