MacDONALD TAKES IT AWAY
Round three of the Beta-sponsored South Island Enduro Championships sent riders into action in the rocky hills of Alexandra at the weekend.
With last year’s event bringing an unaccustomed wet day for the area, it was a completely different experience this time around, with riders waking up to a brilliantly fine central Otago day.
Riders were treated to five hours of top quality single trail, with never so much as a minute of boring transport section to be had.
Extremely tight trail times saw riders struggling to stay on time, with no rider coming out unscathed from the brutal rocks of Alexandra.
Expert level riders were treated to some expert only deviations as well as an expert only loop at the end of the day which really put the south islands top enduro riders through their paces.
After a very physically and mentally challenging day in the saddle it was Christchurch’s Hamish MacDonald, aboard his Beta RR300, who managed to take a convincing win over local rider Ash Cameron (Honda CRF450R) with another local rider, Josh Christiaans (KTM350XC), rounding out the top three.
MacDonald now holds a commanding lead heading into the final round in Nelson on June 14 with few riders holding a mathematical chance of overthrowing the young Beta rider.
A big thanks has to go to Beta for sponsoring the series, Mark MacDonald, for keeping the series running and to Joe Forsyth, for putting all the hard work in to make an awesome event in a stunning part of the country.
The final round is set for Nelson on June 14
