DIRT BIKE UPS AND DOWNS
While the New Zealand Supercross Championships have been abandoned for 2013, a parallel off-road code seems to be hitting boom times.
Lack of rider interest in the scheduled two-round 2013 New Zealand Supercross Championships has forced both the host clubs – Taupo and South Canterbury – to cancel their events, leaving New Zealand without an SX championship at all this coming season.
The writing was probably on the wall when the series had been reduced from four rounds in 2011 to three rounds last season … and now, unfortunately, there are no rounds at all.
But the same cannot be said for the enduro community with their national championship competition expanding from five to seven rounds for 2013.
The seven-round Yamaha New Zealand Enduro Championship series kicks off in the Coromandel in February and wraps up seven months later in South Waikato in September.
The four-round Suzuki New Zealand Cross-country Championships also kicks off in February, in Southland.
