PRIMED FOR ACTION
Defending Australian Supercross Champion and 2012 round one winner Jay Marmont is keyed up for this weekend.
Fresh from his Australian SX round one win at Dubbo, Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Marmont is relishing the chance to once again go head to head with decorated Australian and now US based rider, Chad Reed (Honda), at Phillip Island this weekend.
Marmont, who showed outstanding speed and form to take the victory at Dubbo, has prepared extremely well for this series and on current form, looks set to challenge for the win again at the second round alongside Reed and Australia’s finest.
Marmont is the only rider to beat Reed on an Australian Supercross track in recent years (Canberra Super X 2009) and believes he has what it takes to do it again this year.
“I’m really excited about Phillip Island,” said Marmont.
“I think it’s the pinnacle race of the season being at MotoGP and there’s a lot of hype around it. I’m feeling really confident on my KX450F at the moment.
“I feel that my fitness is exactly where I want it to be, I’m 100% healthy and I’m honestly looking forward to taking the red plate to the battle with Chad. We’re going to need a little bit of luck because Chad is an awesome rider but I’ve beaten him before and I know that things can sometimes go your way on the night so therefore he’s a beatable guy and I’m looking forward to racing him.”
Marmont’s win at Dubbo was not only his first win with Monster Energy Kawasaki but also his first win on board the new 2013 KX450F.
Considering Marmont’s speed at Dubbo and the form of Ryan Villopoto on board the new KX at the recent Monster Energy Cup in Las Vegas, the 2013 Kawasaki KX450F looks set to be another race and championship winner for Kawasaki.
Marmont currently holds the red plate in the 450 class. The team’s 250 rider, Kade Mosig, currently sits in 2nd place in the Lites class, behind American rider Gavin Faith.
