FOUR HOURS OF RACING
The Acerbis 4 hour is all set for Taupo tomorrow with some of New Zealand’s leading off-road endurance racers lining up to race.
Can Te Awamutu’s Mark Penny repeat his Suzuki Six-hour win, this time teamed with Kaukapakapa’s BikesportNZ.com Suzuki rider Josh Jack? Can Yamaha riders Chris Power or Adam Reeves move up and take the glory they only just missed out on at the recent Six-Hour? Will KTM rider Freddie Milford-Cottam or Husaberg ace Reece Burgess snatch the win? What about trials riding legend Jake Whitaker, fresh from collecting his sixth consecutive national Moto Trials title? Then there’s ironman motocross hero Brad Groombridge, always sure to be a threat.
The venue for the annual motorcycle endurance race located just 15 minutes from Taupo, on a pine forest/pumice soil track and it is about 25km long and will feature the berms, hills and fantastic flow that Epic Events is known for.
Riders can enter as individuals or two person teams. One bike per individual (ironman), or teams can choose to ride two bikes or share one bike. There are plenty of prizes up for grabs.
For the junior riders, Epic is again running the MOTOMUCK Junior 90 (minute) race, and a class for novice women.
The Acerbis Four-Hour is one of New Zealand’s premier off road motorcycle endurance races, held in Tahorakuri Forest, SH5.
Nearly 400 riders will line up on the start, ready to explode into action when the shotgun announces the start. Most riders take part in teams of two, swapping every lap. ‘Ironmen’ riders take on the 4 hours on their own.
