PODIUM IN THAILAND
The Thailand Supermotard Championships was held on Saturday, an event that featured Kiwi rider Larry Baker.
Raced on the outskirts of northern Bangkok, the riders had to deal with searing heat, the thermometer racing up past 36 degrees Celsius.
The event was sponsored by Suzuki Thailand and drew competitors from all over Asia, Australia, the United States and New Zealand.
Former Huntly motocross racer Baker was a surprise
man at the event, taking third overall with a fourth and two runner-up finishes in the three-race format on his privately entered Yamaha YZF-450.
Pictured on the podium at the presentation, the quiet Huntly man looks mildly bemused by his success but, no doubt, was delighted as the wreath and trophy was presented to
him.
Motard has a strong following in Bangkok with a purpose-built circuit, fitted with a full-on pit lane set-up, and even entry level modified scooter racing to get you started.
The podium featured a USA rider in first, a Thai ace in second and Baker in third.
