WORK APPRECIATED
New Zealand’s best junior motocross riders will line up at the South Waikato Motorcycle club’s track this weekend to battle for national titles in six separate categories.
Top fields across all classes will race over three days, making for exciting, adrenalin-pumped viewing.
The South Waikato Motorcycle clubs stands proud of the effort, time, dedication and energy needed to make the event happen and Sharon Cox caught up with those closely involved to see how it is shaping up for the big weekend.
Q: Richard Feierabend (president S.W.M.C.C), Diane Lamont, a big weekend coming up, how is it all going in the final days leading up to the NZ Junior Motocross Championships?
Richard: Good track, looks sick! A huge thanks to the committee and also Mike Richmond and Philip Parry Contracting for their help.
Diane: It has been a huge job with many voluntary hours put in, everything is finally coming together and it should be an awesome weekend.
Q: Track preparation, layout, jumps, sections- are there any significant changes that would help rider’s going into the weekend’s racing?
Richard: We are running the same layout as our club day that we held at the beginning of April.
Diane: The preparation of the track is amazing, it has come up really well and even DK commented on how good it was looking. It should hold up well as a lot of hours have been put in. All the juniors that took advantage of our first club day will know what to expect.
Q: It’s a huge task organising a three-day championship event – how has the club managed to make it happen?
Richard: Hard work, lots of experience within the committee organising SX and MX events. The support from sponsors has also been great.
Diane: It certainly is, I don’t think many riders/parents realise the hours that are required to put an event like this together, it is huge! The support from sponsors (especially in the recession) has been amazing and we wish to thank every single one of them. We hope they can join us over the weekend and see the event happening.
Q: Finally, with the long range weather looking pretty good, it should be a great weekend, top racing from class fields, plenty of adrenalin on the line and titles to be won – what would the club like to see from 2011 Junior MX Championship?
Richard: I hope the riders will remember this event as one of the best they have been to.
Diane: We are hoping for a great three days of racing and most of all that the kids ride hard, safe, and are rewarded for the effort they have put in leading up to this event. We also want to make sure they enjoy their experience, whether they win or lose, that is what it’s all about. I also hope they appreciate the effort that goes in to an event like this and support the club at the prize-giving on Sunday – there will be many stories to tell I bet!
