The United States have selected their trio for the upcoming FIM Monster Energy Motocross of Nations (MXoN) in the US from October 3-5, hoping they can restore some pride in the American psyche.
The American Motorcyclist Association has named Eli Tomac, Chase Sexton and Haiden Deegan to represent the United States at the 2025 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations, to be held October 3–5 at Ironman Raceway in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
Team USA may be the team with the most wins in the history of this prestigious competition and always ranked one of the favourites to win it, but there have been lean pickings for the Americans in recent years.
The Americans won the event in 2022, but, before that, they had not won this event for 10 straight seasons (the 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and no American team was sent in 2021) and so the Team USA brand lost some of the lustre it enjoyed in the 80s, 90s and early 2000s, but still their appearance is considered a major draw-card.
Hopes will surely be high for Team USA racing on home turf in this so-called “Olympic Games of Motocross”.
The Indiana venue will host the event for the first time this year and it marks the first US-based MXoN event since 2018.
Tomac, a two-time AMA Supercross Champion and four-time AMA Pro Motocross Champion, will make his sixth MXoN appearance this time around.
Sexton, the reigning AMA Pro Motocross Champion, returns for his second time after helping the US win the event in 2022. Deegan, a two-time SuperMotocross 250cc World Champion and reigning AMA Pro Motocross 250 Class Champion, will make his debut.
The 2025 team will be managed by AMA Director of Racing Mike Pelletier, who takes over from Roger De Coster following his retirement.
“To serve as team manager for the United States Motocross of Nations team is an honour of a lifetime,” Pelletier said. “We have a tremendous team in place this year … We look forward to competing in front of our fans and defending our home turf.”
Tomac called the opportunity to race in front of home fans “great” and said he believes “our team will be very fast at Ironman.” Sexton described the event as “extra special” given its proximity to his Illinois hometown, while Deegan said he is “stoked to finally be healthy enough to go race for my country”.
“It’s an honour to represent team USA at this year’s Motocross of Nations, especially with the event being held at Ironman Raceway alongside Eli Tomac and Haiden Deegan,” Sexton said. “It’s extra special for me with the race taking place so close to where I grew up. I can’t wait to race in front of many hometown fans and represent my country on home soil.”
Meanwhile, the defending MXoN champions, Team Australia, have already named their trio and there were no surprises as they went with the exact same team that lifted the Chamberlain Trophy in 2024.
Indeed, the Aussies will again go with Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence and Kyle Webster.
The Aussie trio will again take exceptional form into the massive international event, as Team Australia sets out to be the first country to go back-to-back since France in 2014-2015.
MXoN nations classifications from 2024 – Top 10 teams:
- Australia 26pts, 2. USA 29 pts, 3. The Netherlands 36pts, 4. Spain 45pts, 5. France 50pts, 6. Germany 62pts, 7. Slovenia 67pts, 8. Italy 70pts, 9. Switzerland 86pts, 10. Latvia 103pts.
