We all have our own opinions about who is the fastest motocross rider in the world don’t we?
Well this video below shows us is what the Americans think anyway.
The old AMA versus MXGP argument started years ago and will continue long after every occasion that one domain or another gets the odd victory over the other … whatever happens at this year’s Motocross of Nations won’t end it either … but, the plain truth is, the world championships are just that, the domain of the best riders from all around the world, racing in different countries and often on fresh tracks too.
The AMA Nationals, while indeed a very strong competition, is really just a domestic championship, perhaps no better than the Belgian nationals, the German nationals, the Dutch nationals, the Italian nationals or perhaps, at a pinch, even the Australian or New Zealand nationals (we have had American and world champions come out of the NZ nationals).
We have seen American riders such as Danny Chandler, Jeff Ward, David Bailey, Ricky Carmichael, Ryan Villopoto, Ryan Dungey and Eli Tomac record a win or two over European riders who visit the US, but, equally, we have seen riders such as David Vuillemin, Jean Michel-Bayle, Marvin Musquin, Stefan Everts, Ken Roczen, Antonio Cairoli and Jeffery Herlings give the US riders a bloody nose when they stop off in Europe.
It’s always an interesting around-the-campfire or down-at-the-pub discussion topic …
