DOBBYN OUT FOR SEASON
New Zealand 2014 Motocross of Nations team rider Hamish Dobbyn will not be seen in action on a motocross track this coming season.
The Husqvarna man from Warkworth crashed at the recent Acerbis Four-Hour cross-country race near Taupo (pictured here in action at the inaugural Speedcross in Taupo in October) and the injury is more severe than he had first believed.
“Unfortunately, I have torn the ACL in my knee which requires surgery with at least six months off the bike,” said Dobbyn.
“I am reluctant to give in to the injury … I have exceeded all avenues in the hope I could get around the surgery, but I have had to accept it is just not possible. I am heading into the surgeon just after New Year’s to get the work done.
“I cannot thank my sponsors and team around me enough for the support they have given me over the last year and for continuing that support through this speed bump. No words can describe how grateful I am to each of you.
“I am immensely gutted to be letting you all down as the season was just starting.
“Having to come to terms with it is never easy, however, I am stoked that the last year has taken us to some great places and I am excited to see what is ahead.
“I hope we can continue working together in the future and I will keep you posted on my recovery.”
