THE FORCE OF THE NORTH
Are you ready to rumble? The top half of the North Island is ready to rock with the four-round Northland Motocross Champs set to kick off this weekend.
The Whangarei Motorcycle Club, Dargaville MCC, Maungaturoto MCC and Northern Dirtbike Club are running the Northland Motocross Championships.
The annual Northland inter-club series, in conjunction with an improving regional economy, plus the driven enthusiasm of series co-ordinator Matt Gunson, of Whangarei, is due to see the start gate fall at round one of four this Sunday (November 2) at the Maungaturoto motocross facility.
The inter-club series has now matured into the Northland Motocross Championships.
All classes are catered for and outstanding series support and sponsorship has been secured for the four-round championship.
Round two is at the home track of New Zealand Motocross of Nations team rider Hamish Dobbyn, at Redhills Raceway, Dargaville on Sunday, November 16.
Round three visits a new race venue, Taylor’s Raceway, nestled in the beautiful Kerikeri Coastal Valley on Sunday, November 30.
The fourth and final round is at the home base track of Altherm JCR Yamaha team rider Ethan Martens. It is the Whangarei Motorcycle Club’s premier sand track raceway at Ruakaka, beach side in the stunningly spectacular Bream Bay, with white sands and blue Pacific surf to ease the rigours of moto once racing is done.
The fourth round is to be run on Saturday, December 13, with a full barbie/beach and beers function on Saturday evening, in true northern style.
The likes of Hamish Dobbyn and Ethan Martens will be using the series as a ‘shakedown’ for the coming 2015 nationals, while in MX2, local national racers such as Michael Purdon and the hard-charging Jack Robinson will keep that class alive.
All junior classes are strongly supported in the Far North and this series is much anticipated at the conclusion of the school year.
Many thanks to all these series sponsors: Douglas Logging, Kaipara motorcycles, Rouse Motorcycles, Kaiwaka motorcycles, Whangarei Yamaha, Planet Honda, Colemans Suzuki, Kaiatai Motorcycles and Blondies’ Nail Tech’ for women’s class support.
All racers welcome and please direct any enquiry to series co-ordinator Matt Gunson on 021430540 or mail to mattgunson@hotmail.com
The motocross ‘Force in the North’ is alive and racing.
