Britain’s Tom Sykes has extended his lead in the 2014 World Superbike Championship standings after finishing second and fourth on an eventful day at Assen, the third round of 13 in the 2014 championship, at the weekend.

The Kawasaki-mounted defending champion has swelled his advantage from four points to 12 points and now leads Aprilia’s Sylvain Guintoli, whose win and ninth place (after a crash) sees him ascend back to second overall, just ahead of Kawasaki’s Loris Baz.

The big winner of the day after scoring 41 points out of a possible 50 has seen Jonathan Rea leap to fourth in the overall standings and well within contention, just 19 points adrift of leader Sykes.

In the EVO reckoning, two class wins have seen Niccolo Canepa nip ahead of David Salom, while Kawasaki retains his advantage in the manufacturer standings.
