The New Zealand Motocross Championships went down to the wire for Taupo’s Brad Groombridge at his home track at the weekend.

Mount Maunganui’s Cody Cooper was well out of reach in the points and he went on to wrap up his second consecutive MX1 crown, but Groombridge had clawed to within snatching distance of the No.2 spot on the podium.

However, even though the BikesportNZ.com-supported rider won the last moto of the championships, it wasn’t quite enough and he had to settle for the No.3 step, one point below visiting Scottish rider Billy MacKenzie.
