ROBSON ON TRIAL
Lower Hutt’s Carl Robson is living the dream, competing at top level trials events in the United Kingdom this season.
Robson is tackling a six-day event in Scotland this week. He and his father, Simon, sent us this report on his progress so far.
Robson got the bike earlier in the week and went for a short ride to check local conditions and the bike was running as expected. There are 276 riders and lots of last-minute action for all.
“It’s due to rain for the next few days after promising some rain and snow for the last few days. It’s been cool, breezey mornings and generally fine days. Just have to see what eventuates.”
“It’s interesting seeing the trials riders riding their bikes on the road and will have to cover 45 miles tomorrow, half of which is on the road. The following day is much more road riding on the 92 mile loop in and out of Fort William.
“Apparently these days the tyres stand up to it and you don’t have to put the tyre pressure up and down between road and off road sections – just leave them at trial pressures all day! The tyres will lose their pressure from road riding when they cool down waiting to the section test.
“I have been looking at a few of the section locations and saw a classic trial for part of yesterday at one of the sections. There sure are lots of old trial bikes still functioning and old boys riding them with a varied level of skill.”
At the end of the first day, Robson is 177th out of 276 riders.
