A MATTER OF BALANCE

The country’s top riders headed to the Christchurch for the final rounds five and six of the South Island Trials Championships at the weekend.
After a couple of bad wet weather days prior to arriving in Christchurch the riders were greeted by two sunny days with temperatures in the 20’s on both days.
Day one in Greylees Road was consisted of eight sections on rocks and two hills climbs. Day two was held in Omihi and sections were all under trees which was well received due to the hot conditions. The sections were mainly on loose pine tree needles and consisted of banks and logs.
Jake Whitaker (NZ1) made the trip south and looked right at home on the rocks on his Montesa and took out the top class for both days but was kept on his feet (on the bike) by Motueka man Karl Clark (pictured above) who came in second place.
A-Grade was closely fought between the Hibbs brothers, Jason and Brad, with Brad taking out both days for a win.
Intermediate was taken out by home town rider Glenn Smith and second placing was tied but Samuel Reid won overall and Darryl Parkhill was in third place. Day two first place was an a outstanding ride by Stuart Corry, second Glenn Smith. Cullum Anderson from Nelson with also a good ride to come in third place.
Presidents for the weekend was again taken out by Blenheim rider Brendon Wadsworth, second on day one and two was Ross Bristal and third Keith Ruthven. Malcom Reid was in third place on day two.
Clubman on day one was taken out by Gavin Fox of Dunedin, second Francis Sydenham and third David Hart. Second day was also won by Fox, second Ryan Dunn and third was Hart.
Junior for both days was won by Motueka rider Brady Inwood and second was David Trewin.

Expert Class: 1st Karl Clark 109 pts, 2nd Jake Whitaker 100 pts, 3rd Jason Baker 83 pts
A Grade Class: 1st Brad Hibbs 118 pts, 2nd Jason Hibbs 92pts, 3rd Pete Oliver 47 pts
Intermediate Class: 1st Sam Reid 119 pts, 2nd Glenn Smith 109 pts , 3rd Darryl Parkhill 101 pts, 4th (Respectively) Blake Fox and 5th Cullum Anderson two of the up and coming youth
Presidents Class: 1st Brendon Wadsworth 125 pts, 2nd Ross Bristol 108 pts, 3rd Alan Honeybone 85 pts
Clubman Class: 1st Francis Sydenham 74 pts, 2nd Gavin Fox 50 pts, 3rd Paul Simmons 50 pts
Junior Class: 1st Brady Inwood 90 pts, 2nd Ryan Dunn 50pts, 3rd David Trewin 44 pts
