GETTING BIGGER AND BETTER
The popular motorsports track at Hampton Downs, near Huntly, has come a long way in a relatively short time.
And, after the venue has endeared itself to the bike community by hosting numerous rounds of the Suzuki Tri Series and New Zealand Superbike Championships over the past few years, motorcycle enthusiasts will now get unprecedented access to all the circuits there through its newly-announced MotoHD initiative.
This brand new concept, which supersedes Playday for bikes at the north Waikato circuit, will deliver regular and affordable access to track days on the new 1.2km Club circuit, the existing 2.7km National circuit and the new 4km International Grand Prix Circuit.
MotoHD was born out of Hampton Downs’ commitment to the motorcycle fraternity.
“Bikes are very important to us and the launch of MotoHD shows we are committed to supporting bikes long term here at Hampton Downs,” says track owner Tony Quinn.
“We are also planning to promote a major motorbike event in March 2017, so watch this space for that one.”
New Zealand Superbike Champion and new MotoHD brand ambassador Sloan Frost fully endorses the concept and says it is exactly what is needed.
“You cannot get a day on a world class circuit like Hampton Downs for $170 anywhere on the planet, says Frost. “MotoHD is going to be awesome for bikers.
“To have regular access to these exceptional facilities at such a great rate is fantastic for the sport and the enthusiasts. I’m stoked to be an ambassador for MotoHD and Hampton Downs.”
MotoHD kicks off with a full day on the national circuit on Sunday, July 2, and will be offering at least 30 sessions a year on its circuits including days where riders can enjoy a configuration of tracks.
Here’s how the track days will work:
Riders will typically be split into three or four groups on these days which takes into account the different speeds of riders: slow, medium, fast and race. Track gates will open at 9am with 20 miniute sessions running throughout the day. Sessions will be developed based on the different levels of rider ability so you always feel comfortable on track.
