INTO THE SANDPIT
Virgin trails await riders at The Sandpit, west of Auckland, for Sunday’s round three of the popular Two-man Cross-country Series, an event that also doubles as round three of Paul Whibley’s NZXC cross-country series.
The Woodhill Forest course will see riders racing in the same block as the popular Sandpit Park this Sunday, August 30.
This round is also a round of the NZXC race series and to give riders a new challenge race organiser Tony Beuth and his crew have built new and resurrecting former cross country trails around the Sandpit area.
“We have been hard at work cutting new trails, and resurrecting a few disused ones to give riders a fresh and interesting course to race on,” said Beuth.
“The decision to move this round was not made lightly and was to allow the forest managers to sort a health and safety issue prior to our fourth round which returns to Leighton’s Farm on September 27.
The two-man series is aimed at entry level riders through to seasoned experts.
All riders stand a chance to win rider training from the legendary Chris Birch and a host of other prizes from our sponsors.
Racing starts at 9am for juniors and ladies and 12 noon start for the seniors. Juniors race for two hours while the seniors run for three.
To get to the event, take Rimmer road off Highway 16 and follow the signs to The Sandpit.
