ON THE AV GAS
Auckland’s Avalon Biddle finished 13th in the latest round of the Trofeo Cup in Imola this week, held as part of the main Italian CIV (Campionato Italiano Velocità) championship.
With the temperatures again in the sweltering mid 40s, Biddle started the race in 11th position but she worked her way up to eighth spot by the end of the first lap.
The high temperatures took a toll on many riders, who were forced in to retire with heat-related issues.
The race was stopped after three laps because of a serious crash.
On the re-start, Biddle got away cleanly and slotted in with a group four riders. With the final lap coming up, the Kiwi ace and another rider were battling for fifth, but both riders then crashed.
Biddle picked her bike up and finished 13th, a small consolation being that she set a personal best lap time for the Imola circuit.
“It was a really nice race today. It was a shame to crash from sixth position with only two laps to go. I wasn’t going to let them beat me without a fight.
“I need to pick up the pace a bit in practise to set the bike up better but, anyway, it was a good weekend. I really appreciate the support from everyone, especially those who were at the track today, thanks!”
Biddle is supported in Italy by Technicamoto Racing and Wil Sport Management.
