TOUGH CONDITIONS HIT THE SOUTH
Round three of the KTM South Island enduro series took place in Berwick Forest, near Mosgiel, over the weekend, with tough conditions really testing the riders.
Good weather graced the area in the lead up to the event, but, in true enduro style, the rain arrived just in time to make things a little more tricky for the South Island’s top enduro riders.
The event consisted of two different trail loops, both of which were ridden twice. Each loop had one special test which added to a total of four tests for the day.
This saw riders set for a solid five hours off saddle time in the slippery, tree root infested Berwick forest.
At the end of a hard day’s riding, it was round two winner Mosgiel’s Jol Hennessey (Yamaha YZ250) who took a solid win over Gore’s Ben Turnbull (KTM 250XC-F), with Alexandra’s Logan Forsyth (KTM300XC) filling the number three spot.
Bad luck struck round one winner, Rangiora’s Kelly Paterson (Yamaha WR250F), with a virus getting the better of him on the day.
Hennessey now holds the series lead with one round to go but with the ‘drop a round’ rule, the series win is still within reach of a handful of riders.
The riders extend a big thanks KTM for sponsoring the series and to the Mosgiel club for all their hard work, as well as Mark Macdonald for his efforts in keeping the finer details of the event in check and running smoothly.
Riders now head to Nelson for the final round which will be a two-day event on July 6-7.
Day one will be the traditional enduro style format, while day two will consist of three different terrain tests ridden several times in an enduro sprint style format with test times adding to riders day one points.
