PLENTY TO CELEBRATE
The Steve Bagshaw-managed Moto Academy NZ road-race team has had plenty to celebrate again this season.
Even after not competing in the final two rounds of the series, young Malaysian Hafiq Azmi still finished the 125GP championship in third spot overall with 215 points, just 30 points back from the eventual winner, Christchurch’s Seth Devereux.
By winning seven out of nine races in the South Island segment of the championship, which included winning the NZ Grand Prix, Hafiq Azmi (pictured above and right) did more than enough to impress.
Also closing out a successful season for Moto Academy NZ graduates, Auckland’s Glen Orwin finished in fourth position overall, Whangarei’s James Jarman in seventh and Woburn’s Kyle Hammond in eighth, so Moto Academy NZ can claim to have coached riders to 3rd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 10th in NZSBK 125GP 2012 and to winning both the NZGP and NZTT titles.
Orwin was most outstanding at round four of the series at Hampton Downs when he secured a hat-trick of wins and also claimed the NZ Tourist Trophy title.
The Moto Academy NZ team also supported 14-year-old Tyler Lincoln from Havelock North as he had his first outing on the 125GP bike at Hampton Downs.
He finished a remarkable ninth, sixth and seventh in the three races of his New Zealand Superbike Championships debut.
It’s also worth noting that one of Moto Academy NZ’s foundation riders in 2008, Wellington’s Glen Skachill, finished a remarkable runner-up in the 600 supersport championship this season.
