A CLASSIC EVENT
An International Classic Scramble Series is set to get underway in Golden Bay on February 4-5 and subsequent weekends in Taranaki, Wanganui and Upper Hutt.
British international trials and scramble star Mick Andrews returns to New Zealand for the first two rounds and five-times British Motocross Champion Bryan Wade appears at the Wanganui event.
The ‘Old Thumpers’ event in Golden Bay (Pre 1980) motocross machines rune Sunday with the 1st round of the Mick Andrews Twinshock Trials Series on Saturday.
‘Taranaki Vintage Dirt’ at Inglewood (Feb 11-12) includes two rounds of the MA Trials Series, a Saturday afternoon Pre 76 scramble and an invitation only BBQ & official opening of the Steve Gallichan private Motocross Museum that evening.
Early Sunday morning the trial continues plus Round 4 of the Tricky Dicky Racing Vintage Motocross Series 9. Mick & Jill Andrews are special guests of honour. The following weekend ‘Wanganui Classic Dirt’ (Feb 18-19) takes place on the famous ‘Kildare’ circuit – the ex Bob Coleman property.
This event includes 2 Rounds of Mick Andrews Series Twinshock Trial series starting at 1pm on Saturday and on Sunday a Pre ‘76 scramble.
Bryan Wade will make his only NZ appearance at this event and was the first rider to win a British MX Championship on a Japanese machine, the 1974 125cc title with Suzuki.
He was also the first rider to win the British 125, 250 and 500cc British titles. The last weekend of February (25-26) the series heads to the Summer Carnival for ‘Upper Hutt Twinshock Dirt’ with the 6th and final round of the Mick Andrews Trials series and on Sunday a twinshock scramble at a local venue.
Mick Andrews is being bought to NZ in a JV between the Pioneer MCC and Robert Cochrane and the Taranaki event is a JV project with Taranaki VMX enthusiast Steve Gallichan.
