CLOSE RACING IN TOKOROA
The racing was extremely close at round two of the Dirt Guide Cross-country Series near Tokoroa on Saturday.
Just one second separated the winner, Tauranga’s Reece Burgess, from the runner-up, Napier’s John O’Dea at the end of the day.
Auckland’s Callan May had the lead early on but a botched fuel stop gave the race away.
Tokoroa’s Mark Newton took the win in the intermediates, ahead of Putaruru’s Phil Skinner.
In the junior race, Huntly’s Ryan Hoskins took another good win with a very steady race, while Tokoroa’s Jesse Clarke moved into second this time with a good ride from him.
Taupo’s Greg DeLautour was about 30 seconds ahead of Clarke on the last lap but broke his chain about half way around.
The third and final round is at Whakamaru on the June 25-26.
