THUMBS UP FOR NEW CIRCUIT
The Taupo Motorcycle Club is all set to host round two of the BackFlips New Zealand Supercross Champs on the brand new Addiction SX Track on January 2.
International stars Josh Coppins (Yamaha), Cody Cooper (Suzuki), Justin McDonald (Honda) (pictured above), Michael Phillips (Honda), Scott Columb (Suzuki), Peter Broxholme (Honda), Kayne Lamont (Suzuki) and Mason Phillips (Kawasaki) are among those who will head the strongest field ever of New Zealand riders as they compete for their respective New Zealand championship honours at Taupo.
This new facility is located in the world famous Digger McEwen Track off Miro Street in Taupo, just five minutes’ drive from the town centre.
Hundreds of volunteer hours have gone in to build the new supercross track and its amphitheatre layout.
Supercross is the spectators’ dream version of motocross with the track being only 120m long by 70m wide, filled with big jumps, whoop sections and giant table tops.
Bar-banging, high-flying action is guaranteed all visible from 360 degrees embankment with food, beverages and kids entertainment at the spectators’ finger tips.
Top local riders Brad Groombridge (Suzuki) and Nick Saunders (Kawasaki) are ready to race on the new circuit after the club opened its new facility up for riders to practice at prior to the championship round. Both riders come away smiling after cutting some laps, giving the club the “thumbs up” on the new circuit.
All they need now is some local support which will get them pumped up to turn the throttle full on.
The championship is run over four rounds and comprises of four classes being divided by capacity ratings. The two senior classes are supercross lites, supercross open and the two junior classes being junior 250 and junior lites.
Spectator gates open at 11.30 am with action set to start at 12 noon with practices and qualifying. This will be followed by halftime entertainment with the finals beginning at 4pm and running through until 7pm.
Tickets are gate sales only with prices for adults $15, children $5, five years or under free, and family pass $40 two adults, three children.
