PRACTISE DAY ANNOUNCED
Organisers of the highly-anticipated NZ Supercross Open Event set to be staged at holiday hotspot Mount Maunganui on December 30 have announced the date for an Official Practise Day at the event circuit.
The day will be run on Sunday, December 5. Race Director, Scotty Wilkins said rider safety was paramount in their decision to run the practice day.
“We have a single main objective we aim to achieve by holding the Official Practise Day and that is safety”.
Wilkins continued: “Safety is our number one priority. Safety for competitors, track marshals, spectators and support crews. For this reason, the Official Practise Day will be run in a format that allows competitors to enjoy valuable ‘track time’ on what is usually a private facility, while the days format will provide ‘race styled’ sessions for each of the classes to provide an experience that will be as similar the main event as possible.
“In addition to the competitors being able to gain track time, track marshals will be put through a comprehensive training and education program to ensure the best possible protection for themselves and competitors in the event of an incident during the racing”.
Wilkins concluded, “Supercross is a fantastic sport, and the NZ Supercross Open event will expose our sport to a huge audience of “first time” spectators. It is absolutely imperative that we provide an experience to the new fans, as well as the converted, and that the experience is not marred by any negative race incidents or accidents. An experienced, well trained and briefed event crew will best position the NZ Supercross Open to achieve these desired outcomes”.
All riders wishing to attend this day must pre-enter no later than 5pm Thursday December 2 via the event website www.nzsupercrossopen.co.nz)
No entries will be accepted on the day. All classes featured at the NZ Supercross Open event on December 30, 2010, will be catered for, and although this fixture will not be a mandatory requirement for entry to the main event, those riders with less experience are urged to attend to ensure the event organisers are satisfied of their respective abilities.
