NZ’s CLUB DES NATIONS MX
On May 29, the Digger McEwen Motorcycle track at Taupo offers the opportunity to see New Zealand’s top riders represent their home clubs in a bid to win the prestigious new title “NZ Battle of Clubs 2010”.
The event is being run as a fundraiser for NZ Motocross des Nations team. All entry and gate proceeds will go directly toward the riders representing New Zealand at the Motocross des Nations.
The concept was born from a group of MXoN supporters who wanted to see that the NZ riders who are selected, are funded as they race for their country at Thunder Valley, Colorado, on September 26, 2010.
Motorcycling New Zealand has been assisting the fundraising committee where possible and, in particular have waived the permit cost for this event, to help minimise running costs.
“We have had great support from Jim and Carmen who fully endorse the spirit of the fundraising endeavour for the annual MXoN event.”
Group spokesperson Geoff Hall said “In the past various riders and personnel supporters have contributed a lot of money to make it possible for riders to appear at the overseas venues to represent New Zealand. We thought it was time to spread to word among fellow Kiwi racers and supporters, to do something for them.
“This is an excellent opportunity to have a great day racing while raising money. Every person who enters the circuit will be asked for a gold coin donation”.
The event will be run as per Motocross des Nations format with a separate trophy Junior Club trophy, Senior Club trophy and overall Club trophy up for grabs. Each club will need to enter six riders, one in each of the following classes; Junior 85cc, Junior 125cc, Junior 250 4st, Senior MX1, Senior MX2 and Vets 40+. There will be two races per class with Jun 85cc pitted against Jun 125cc & Junior 250 4st, and Senior MX1 against Senior MX2 so forth.
Geoff Hall says it is a great chance to get behind your own club riders and come support them as they do battle in their clubs name. We have chosen the Taupo club team; Hadleigh Knight Jun 85cc, Dion Picard Jun 125cc (pictured above), Ryan Knight Jun 250cc, Bevan Weal Vets 40+, Nick Saunders MX2 and Brad Groombridge MX1.
We have had a lot of interest from other clubs and hope that the home track advantage with great local support will help us to make it to the top of the podium.
Entry forms are now out and available from www.taupomcc.co.nz or www.mnz.co.nz
