The Kiwis are battered but not bruised after a drama-filled scorcher at the 18th and final round of the Motocross World Championships at Glen Helen, near San Bernadino in Southern California, on Sunday.

There is no doubt that the United States is among the top nations in the world when it comes to motocross racing, having won the Motocross of Nations an astounding 22 times since the competition’s inception in 1947.

It is that time of the year again when riders acquire their new bikes, raise the tempo on their training regimes, make serious plans for the coming national championships season and, in a few instances, also change teams.

New Zealanders Cody Cooper and Ben Townley have come through the first big test at Glen Helen today with flying colours.

Most of the big names will be lining up at the 18th and final round of the Motocross World Championships at California’s Glen Helen circuit this weekend.

Bay of Plenty rider Ben Townley should feel right at home when he lines up to represent New Zealand at the annual Motocross of Nations in France at the end of this month.

The big annual Motocross of Nations is a big deal on the world motocross calendar and perhaps few Kiwis know this better than Mount Maunganui’s Cody Cooper.
