BUST A NUT
The Nut Buster Hard Enduro is set for some the toughest terrain Canterbury has to offer, at Woodstock heights (near Oxford) on October 30.
With the track situated on the foothills of the Southern Alps, the Tracktion-sponsored event promises to test the riders skills on everything from steep, rocky hills to tight manuka forest trails, mud, logs and waterfalls.
Last year’s inaugural event proved successful, with more than 30 riders braving the gruelling terrain. This year promises to be even better with last year’s runner-up Mark Delatour (pictured above) confirmed to contest the race once again and Whangamata’s Jason Davis looking to make his debut at the hard event.
For 2011, the track will be much the same as last year but with more technical sections and less ‘transit’ sections to rest on. There will be deviations for intermediate and clubmen riders who will avoid any ‘nasty’ bits. Expert riders will do a total of 4 laps of a 22km circuit, intermediate riders will do 3 laps of a 19km circuit and clubmen riders will complete two laps of a 12km circuit. The race is expected to take leading riders three hours to complete, with the ‘average’ rider expected to take 3.5 to 4.5 hours to complete the race.
There will also be a great spectator viewing area which will consist of endurocross style obstacles (logs etc) and the car park is a short walk to some gnarly manuka forest which makes for great viewing as the riders battle their way through mud and tree roots.
Entry fees for expert and intermediate riders are $50 plus day licenses if you are not an MNZ race license holder. Clubmen entry fee is just $30 plus race license.
Whether you want to test yourself against the 2010 NZ enduro champion or test yourself against the terrain, the Nutbuster has a class for you. For just $30 why wouldn’t you get out and give it a go?
