The countdown is on ahead of the 2026 Udderly Organic Grand National Vintage motocross in the South Island.
Two days of racing is set for flowing grassland between Ward and Seddon on August 29 and 30 and, to make it even better, spectator entry is free.
There are 50 North Island and 85 South Island entries for the event that will see so many old twin-shock bikes hit the track on Saturday.
The coveted North Versus South Trophy is currently held by the South and the northerners are determined to take it home from the riders with a home-town advantage.
Bikes from a 1938 Aerial 500, raced by Takaka rider Beau Quartly, through to the Yamaha YZ400F of 1998-99, being ridden by father and son combo Mark, Scott and Joel Meadows of Christchurch, will be part of the South Island Team.
From the North you will see “BSA Bruce” Fergusson (Palmerston North), on a A650cc from 1965 and his 71 BSA B50, taking on multiple classes both days and a Kiwi legend Mitch Rowe is bringing his big 99 Husaberg FC600 trying get as many points as they can to get the trophy.
There are New Zealand racing legends, too numerous to name, coming along for the weekend. The passion of VMX has bought many of the riders back to the sport to ride bikes they dreamed of owning there are a total of 66 races and 40 classes racing for 1-3rd trophies and prizes over 2 days.
It is an honour to have enter 1970s National and International racer Peter Ploen (Tauranga) on his original works 1974 RH250 that he rode for Coleman Suzuki, he still wears his Crazy Shirts sponsored leathers from back in the day.
