The 2022 motocross world championships season has already been full of surprises and we could be sure to expect a few more in Italy at the weekend.
Take a look at the season re-cap so far, with MXGP championship leader Tim Gajser and MXGP rookie Maxime Renaux giving their opinions on the first few races of this season.
The FIM Motocross World Championship continues at the weekend (main racing actually Monday morning NZ time) with the fifth round of the series, the MXGP of Trentino, in Italy, and Slovenian rider Gajser will be looking to extend his remarkable points lead in the premier category.
Honda rider Gajser might not have won the Grand Prix of Portugal last weekend, and he might also have given young Spaniard Jorge Prado (KTM) a little momentum and confidence, but you never really had the feeling the four-time motocross world champion was too worried by it all.
A couple of crashes on the Saturday probably gave his rivals a little bit of extra hope but come Sunday and race day and only a poor start in the opening moto really made life difficult for Gajser from taking his fourth straight GP victory.
He’s currently 21 points ahead of Prado, with Renaux another 21 points further back after four rounds. What will be the difference between them after round five?
