Germany’s Ken Roczen seems unstoppable, making it three wins in a row at the Indianapolis venue, round six of the AMA Supercross Championships in the United States at the weekend.
The Honda star won his third main event in a row and has extended his championship lead to 16 points over KTM’s Cooper Webb, who also finished second in this morning main event, with Frenchman Marvin Musquin (KTM) coming home in third place.
Roczen led early from Gas Gas rider and round one winner Justin Barcia, Webb, Kawasaki pair Adam Cianciarulo and Eli Tomac and Yamaha’s Malcolm Stewart. Roczen just looked brilliant in front controlling the race. Barcia was working hard to get closer to Roczen, but the Honda rider was just so smooth and confident in front.
Barcia latched onto Roczen, with Webb in third place, with Tomac and Cianciarulo close in fourth and fifth place as Tomac made his way past his team-mate. Frenchman Dylan Ferrandis (Yamaha) was back in 11th place with Husqvarna’s Zach Osborne keeping his top 10 form in check holding down 10th.
Tomac then moved closer to Webb and was looking to move into third place. Roczens lead was 1.9 seconds over Barcia as the German figured he needed to get away from the dangerous Barcia. Barcia in the meantime had a similar gap to Webb in third place.
Cianciarulo was holding off Stewart and Musquin, with Joey Savatgy, Anderson and Osborne rounding out the top 10. Once again the AMA supercross field showed the big gap between the top 15 and the rest as slower riders were getting in the way of the elite guys.
Vince Friese got in Roczen’s wayand then caused a crash for Barcia with the third-placed rider’s race ending on the ground, with Tomac also going down and handing Musquin third place. Tomac got up to finish in seventh place, but Barcia ended back in the field in 19th.
In the championship it is Roczen 138, Webb 122 and Tomac 114.
In the 250 main event it was Christian Craig ahead of Jo Shimoda and series leader Colt Nichols.
