The Broncos Stadium at Mile High, in Denver, Colorado, in the United States, is called that for a reason … you’re a long way from a warm beach.
The high elevation of the stadium and freezing temperatures at the weekend challenged all of the riders competing at the Denver Supercross, round 15 of 17 in the series.
But Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac coped best, scoring an impressive win in the main event.
Frenchman Marvin Musquin (KTM) got the holeshot ahead of Joey Savatgy in the main event, but Tomac soon threw his name into the mix with a pass on his Kawasaki team-mate and then made the pass on Musquin for the lead in the whoops section just five minutes into the race.
After a tough but clean fight with Savatgy, KTM’s Cooper Webb soon found himself up into third position. Webb continued to charge and, with just two minutes and a lap remaining, the championship leader got by his team-mate and put Musquin down to third.
In the 250cc class, Michael Mosiman got the holeshot but it didn’t take long for points leader Adam Cianciarulo to challenge him for the lead position. Mosiman put up a good fight and the two raced bar-to-bar turn-after-turn until Cianciarulo finally pulled the pass off with 10 minutes to go. Unfortunately things didn’t end well for Mosiman, as he went down and fell outside of the podium positions.
