RECOVERING BUT NOT READY
French MXGP world champion Romain Febvre has come out this week with comment about his injuries and admits the concussion he picked up in a crash at the British GP last month is still giving him problems.
The Yamaha man slammed into the ground in the qualifying race and missed not only the British GP at Matterley Basin, near Winchester, but the Italian round at Mantova a week later.
He has now slipped to third in the championship, 92 points behind Slovenian series leader Tim Gajser and he trails Italian multi-time former champion Antonio Cairoli by 32.
“Since my crash two weeks ago I feel better, but not 100% yet,” said Febvre, winner of the MXGP crown as an open-class rookie last season and still among the favourites to win this year until his accident.
“I’ve still some problem with balance but today I went back on the bike for the first time and the goal is to slowly get the sensation back.
“I want to participate at the French Elite championship at Iffendic in two weeks, as it will be a good test before going back to GPs.
“I want to prepare for this race but the biggest work is on myself – especially my brain.”
The next round of the MXGP world series is set for Loket, in the Czech Republic, on July 24.
