MORE INJURY WOES
All three of New Zealand’s Motocross of Nations team riders who competed in Germany last season are now on the injured list.
Cody Cooper, Rhys Carter and now Kayne Lamont have all been sidelined.
Lamont is the latest casualty, the 21-year-old New Zealand MX2 champion from Mangakino crashing out of qualifying this morning at the eighth round of 10 in the Australian Motocross Championships at Raymond Terrace, New South Wales.
The BikesportNZ.com-supported rider crashed heavily on the last lap of qualifying and was immediately rushed to the Race Safe truck for assessment and, at this early stage, it seems he has broken his collarbone.
He will not take part in any further action at the track today and will fly home tomorrow for further medical examination back in New Zealand.
His father, Stu Lamont, said it is likely he will be out for between six and eight weeks, but should be fit and fast enough again to contemplate defending his New Zealand crown in October or November.
Lamont (Husqvarna Red Bull WIL Sport BikesportNZ.com TC250) had led the Australian MX2 championships after round one and had been among those favoured to win the title across the Tasman this year.
A string of bad luck meant he had slipped down the championships standings to seventh overall before this weekend’s round but had been just 25 points off claiming a podium spot.
