LAMONT READY TO POUNCE
BikesportNZ.com rider Kayne Lamont is determined to put his Australian Motocross Championships MX2 campaign back on track this weekend.
The 10-round series continues with round seven at Conondale on the Sunshine Coast, just north of Brisbane, this weekend with a slight change in format – three races for each class instead of just two – and the man from Mangakino hopes this might bring him better luck.
Lamont took his Husqvarna Red Bull WIL Sport BikesportNZ.com TC250 bike to dominate the opening rounds of the series before suffering a couple of health-related set-backs.
Lamont will head into battle with fresh vigour this weekend after having shaken off his debilitating flu and recovered from his injured collarbone.
“I’m starting to get my normal self back, I’ve been riding and training like normal for a couple of weeks now,” said Lamont.
“Conondale is one of my preferred terrains. I’ve been out riding some grassy tracks. I’ve been looking forward to it. It’s quite naturally hilly which is like home so it should be good.
“I can’t really afford to be off the podium from here on, and my goal is to collect as many points as possible and try and take the top step from here on. That’s all I can really do and see what the others do.”
Although Yamaha’s Luke Clout retains the MX2 championship lead heading into this weekend, questions have been raised on whether it is just a matter of time before the red plate is handed over to someone else, perhaps another Kiwi such as Takaka’s Hamish Harwood, for example, the CMR Red Bull KTM rider currently in second spot and just 14 points behind Clout.
