DUNLOP WINS SUPERBIKE TT
New Zealand’s Bruce Anstey set a new outright lap record on his way to finishing fourth overall in the six-lap Superbike TT at the Isle of Man overnight.
Anstey(Honda) finished behind winner Michael Dunlop (BMW), Guy Martin (Suzuki) and Conor Cummins (Honda).
For crowd-pleasing recent visitor to New Zealand, Lincolnshire’s Martin (pictured above), it was his 14th career TT podium in the 226-mile race.
Martin’s fastest time was on lap-two with a personal best on the day of 130.969 mph.
Former Wellington man Anstey set a time of 132.298mph to take the record.
“That was a good effort and I really enjoyed it but I suppose it’s another second place,” acknowledged Martin afterwards.
“The bike never missed a beat and the boys did a mega job today, but I have to take my hat off to Michael [Dunlop] as he’s riding well. I knew Conor [Cummins] was catching me on the final lap and I actually thought I might have to re-pass Michael on the road and make an extra big effort, but I right enjoyed that.”
Dunlop will start as favourite to add to his tally of successes in Monday’s Supersport and Superstock events.
