HEADED TO MURRAY BRIDGE
The MX1 class at the 2014 Monster Energy Australian Motocross Championships has become a little predictable for some – not many punters care to tip against Team Motul Suzuki’s Matt Moss to become back-to-back champion.
So, as the riders head to Murray Bridge, South Australia, for round four this weekend, it was decided to ask some of his rivals what it is going to take to bring the reigning number one plate holder down in 2014.
Then Moss himself was asked whether or not he thinks anyone can take the 2014 championship away from him.
Here’s what they had to say:
Kirk Gibbs – currently 2nd

“Anyone’s beatable. It’s always been proven that no one is unstoppable.
“It is all about Matt Moss at the moment – he won the title last year and he’s riding really well this year.
“He gets really good starts and I think the biggest thing is to try and get good starts and run with him at the start and try to put pressure on early.
“If you can stay with him and put pressure on him, not let him get a lot of wins and get his confidence up – he seems to be a really big confidence guy, so if you don’t let that sky rocket too high, well I think that he’s definitely beatable.”
Adam Monea – currently 3rd
“You just have to keep working on it. I am a lot closer to Matt than I have ever been, and he’s beatable.
“His brother Jake is flying as well as a couple of other guys and the competition is pretty fierce.
“If we concentrate on Matt too much then I think someone might fly under the radar so it’s about bringing the best everyday and being the best you can be.
“You can’t concentrate on that one person because obviously that person will beat you if you worry about them too much.”
Jake Moss – currently 4th
“When it comes to Matt I need to just dominate all day against him.
“You can’t give him a sniff of a win because he will just take it and run.
After getting the run down from Matt Moss’s top opponents, we got a word from the man himself on whether or not he thinks anyone has what it takes to bring down the champ!
Matt Moss – MX1 Series leader
What makes you so different from everyone else racing out there at the moment?
“Not much, I wouldn’t say I’m different, I just think I’m a lot more head-strong compared to my competitors. And experience I guess, knowing what it takes to win a championship.”
Although you are the red plate holder at this stage, Adam Monea did take the overall at the last round; do you see him as a threat at all?
“I wouldn’t go as far to say that he’s a threat. That was his local track, he had a lot of friends and family supporting him there and ultimately I still pulled more points in the championship. He might be a threat here and there on the day, but as for the championship I am just working hard for myself.”
How are you feeling about the next round?
“I feel really good about the next round, my track is sandy so I’ve got lots of preparation in. I can’t wait.”
Do you think there’s anyone at the moment that could take this championship away from you?
“Na – nope! I’m sure everyone is going to have some good races and stuff, but the only threat to me is myself.”
