Spoiler alert … there were few surprises at this year’s Honda Summercross at Whakatane.

National MX1 champion Cody Cooper won the MX1 class; national MX2 champion Scott Columb shared top points in the MX2 category with national MX2 No.3 Rhys Carter and national 125cc No.2 Logan Blackburn won the Youth MX class.

BikesportNZ.com was there to capture both days of racing, the juniors on Saturday and the seniors, vets and women on Sunday.

Few surprises there, we agree, but did you want to hear about the stunning performances by Brad Groombridge, Jesse Donnelly, Michael Phillips and Campbell Bailey in the MX1 class? What about Nick Saunders, Callan May and John Phillips in the MX2 division?

Ryan Hoskins and Dan Bell, Josh Ryburn and Jakob Vink were impressive in the Youth MX grade.

Opunake’s Taylar Rampton was unstoppable in the women’s races, while enduro ace Natasha Cairns, national women’s champion Sarah Elwin and Tyla Cushion were also excellent. Then there were the vets and, of course, the juniors …
