SPEEDCROSS RIDE DAY
Bay of Plenty man Ben Townley has a vision for what supercross could become in New Zealand.
His concept is for a slightly modified version of supercross racing called Speedcross, which features double jumps and tabletops, just like in regular supercross events, but also has a long sweeping speedway-style section.
The former world and American champion – along with Brad Groombridge, Hamish Harwood, Rhys Carter, Aaron Wiltshier, Hadleigh Knight and Jesse Donnelly – recently demonstrated this modification of the supercross, using a rapid-fire, four-lap, four-rider format that had the assembled crowd at the Taupo facility in awe.

With that successful launch, Townley now opens up the re-sculptured track to all-comers on Saturday, December 14, for a Speedcross Ride Day.
What: SPEEDCROSS ride day
Where: Taupo, SPEEDCROSS track
When: Saturday 14th December, 2:00pm – 5:00pm
Who: Minis, Juniors, Vets, Seniors (will be broken into classes)
Cost: $10
Track will be watered and prepped up like a “race event” for all to experience SPEEDCROSS. The two big doubles have been filled in and are now tabletop jumps, so the track is now three big tabletop jumps and one set of rollers.
