Toowoomba motocross ace Troy Carroll is pulling the pin on his long and successful riding career.

Carroll, one of Australia’s most successful riders with 12 national motocross and supercross titles to his name, will retire from riding at the final round of the Monster Energy Super X Championship in Brisbane this weekend (December 5).

The 30-year-old won’t walk away from the sport, he will take on the role of team manager for the factory Kawasaki team, but Carroll felt the time was right to head in to life after racing.

“I’ve been basically contracted since I turned 16 and I’ve just had enough of competing,” Carroll said.

“I’ve got a wife and three kids and it’s just time for me to step into the next chapter of my life.

“I don’t want to be one of those guys who is still racing at 35 and holding a young kid back, so I’ll retire now and not hold up a seat.”

Carroll’s successful career hasn’t come without hurdles.

He has sustained 29 broken bones and undergone three shoulder operations in the last 18 months alone.

But he is looking forward to ending his racing career in front of a 23,000-strong Queensland crowd.

“It will be a nice way to finish to ride in Queensland,” he said.
