THE MONTH THAT WAS
Whew! … what a month that was.
The crew from BikesportNZ.com and Kiwi Rider magazine have sure covered a lot of ground in the past month … there has not been a single weekend of rest since we hit the big annual New Zealand Motocross Grand Prix at Woodville at the end of January. Then it was into the depths of the bush country on the remote Waikato coastline at Oparau, for round one of the New Zealand Enduro Championships, a week later at the start of February.
Then we took the long trek south to capture all the action at round one of the New Zealand Motocross Championships at Pleasant Point, just outside Timaru, before travelling back up to the tar-sealed public streets of Paeroa for the big annual Battle of the Streets event for road bikes.
We checked in on the KTM Extreme Enduro Championships and opening round of the New Zealand Cross-country Championships along the way, as well as keeping a close eye on what transpired at round two of the New Zealand Championships at Patetonga and round two of the New Zealand Enduro Championships at Whangamata.
This month it will be round three of the New Zealand Motocross Championships at Harrisville (this Sunday), followed by round four of the Superbikes nationals at Hampton Downs, round two of the New Zealand Cross-country Championships in Taranaki and round three of the New Zealand Enduro Championships at Riverhead.
The North Island Moto Trials Championships hit the Waikato near the end of the month and then it is superbikes again, this time at Taupo, extreme enduro at Oparau and motocross at Taupo to finish off the month.
This is what makes Kiwi motorcyclists such world-class riders and racers … an abundance of events, a diversity of styles and a wealth of talent throughout … all of this happening within an easy drive of major population centres.
