Back-to-back MX2 class race wins by Tommy Searle provided double delight at the British Motocross Grand Prix at Matterley Basin, near Winchester, overnight.

It was a massive boost for the British Kawasaki rider and a thrilling result for the home crowd there to cheer on their local favourite.

Searle won both races ahead of championship leader Jeffrey Herlings (KTM), although the Dutch rider still leads the championship chase by a whopping 51 points with just three rounds remaining.

It could be pay-back time at the next round, set for Herlings’ home circuit at Lierop.

American Zach Osborne (Yamaha) took third step on the podium with his 3-4 results.

Britain’s Jake Nicholls (KTM) – just named as part of the British Motocross of Nations effort – looked strong, finishing 4-5. He is now fourth in the championships standings, closing in on injured Belgian Joel Roelants.

Meanwhile, in the MX1 class, defending world champion Antonio Cairoli (KTM) was again unstoppable.

The Italian finished 1-1, finishing the day ahead of his own KTM team-mates Max Nagl and Ken De Dycker, who were second and third overall respectively.
