It seems Pahiatua motorcycle ace Adam Reeves can do no wrong.

The Yamaha rider wrapped up the national cross-country title just over a week ago and now he’s backed that up by winning the latest round of the Yamaha Top Trail Rider (Central) Enduro Series near Martinborough at the weekend.

Reeves described his win on Sunday as “fairly comfortable”, despite the fact that the slippery farmland course featured plenty of obstacles to trap the unwary.

“It was quite technical riding and very wet and muddy. It was quite demanding but I still enjoyed it,” he said.

Napier’s John O’Dea (Suzuki) was second and Palmerston North’s Steven Bird (Honda) third on Sunday.

Reeves said the past couple of weekend’s had been a huge confidence boost after he suffered a horror start to the enduro season — he suffered a flat tyre at the opening round of the enduro nationals — and a crash mid-way through the cross-country series had also threatened to prematurely end that campaign.

But now he’s on top of the world.

Despite his win on Sunday, however, Reeves still has some catching up to do in the TTR (Central) series points chase, with just one round remaining.

Series leader Rory Mead, from Whitby, was a no-show at Martinborough at the weekend, the fellow Yamaha rider instead called away on international racing duties.

Despite his absence on Sunday, Mead still leads the TTR series but his margin has been shaved to six points, with O’Dea second and Reeves now up to third position, only a further six points in arrears of the Hawke’s Bay rider.

Momentum perhaps favours Reeves, who also won the previous round of the TTR series.

The fifth and final round of the TTR (Central) series  is set for Santoft Forest, near Palmerston North, on July 26.

The Yamaha TTR series targets novice and enduro first-timers, offering challenging but not impossible terrain to tempt and introduce newcomers to the sport.

The Yamaha New Zealand TTR series features two parallel but separate series — the five-round TTR Yamaha Central Enduro Series and the five-round TTR Yamaha Northern Enduro Series.

Both TTR series run independently from the national championships series, with emphasis on low-stress, good time rides, an ideal format for club riders to try out enduro racing without the stress associated with the elite level of the sport.

The twin TTR series and the nationals are all sponsored by Yamaha New Zealand, Kiwi Rider magazine, Acerbis, Mitas Tyres, HJC Helmets and is supported by Motorcycling New Zealand.
