It’s probably the worst-kept secret of the motocross “silly season”, but multi-time MXGP world champion Jorge Prado is almost certain to be racing on green next year.
Although not officially announced, the GASGAS factory team rider is widely tipped to be heading the way of Kawasaki and racing in the United States in 2025.
The Spaniard’s move to the US to race in Monster Energy AMA Supercross and the AMA Pro Motocross Championship starting in 2025 has been rumoured for a few months now, but there is, as yet, no official confirmation being offered.
In the meantime, GASGAS recently thanked him for his service as a press release announced he was leaving their team.
Prado won the 2023 FIM Motocross World Championship (MXGP) title and then backed up his No.1 plate with the 2024 title as well in a showdown against Honda HRC’s Tim Gajser that came down to the finale in Prado’s home country of Spain.
It seemed like an ending of a movie the way it played out as the GasGas rider won the finale overall and the title in his final MXGP race.
At 23 years of age, Prado joins Torsten Hallman, Harry Everts and Heikki Mikkola as four-time World Champions, while his 49 Grand Prix wins put him 8th on the Grand Prix win list behind Jeffrey Herlings (108), Stefan Everts (101), Antonio Cairoli (94), Joel Smets (57), Joel Robert and Tim Gajser (49).
GasGas honoured Prado with a special MC 450F Prado Edition earlier this year, celebrating his 2023 MXGP title.
As for Prado going to green, expect to hear that announcement any time soon and, after that, it’s on to Anaheim in California and the start of the AMA Supercross Championships.
