Australian Jett Lawrence has now made it three wins in a row in the 2024 AMA Supercross Championships after dominating at round 10 in Indianapolis at the weekend.
The Honda star was virtually untouchable, enjoying a triumphant sweep of all three races in the 450SX Triple Crown while Kawasaki’s Cameron McAdoo walked away with the 250 class win and the East Coast championship lead.
Despite German Suzuki rider Ken Roczen’s persistent challenge, Lawrence’s determination propelled him to the forefront in each race, denying Roczen the top spot.
Roczen’s consistent 2-2-3 finishes earned him second place overall.
Defending champion Chase Sexton, too, maintained consistency with 3-3-2 scores, securing a solid third overall for the night.
Jason Anderson’s fourth-place finish defied conventional scoring, as his 5-6-5 finishes reflected the night’s unpredictability. Cooper Webb’s 8-5-4 performance earned him fifth place.
Lawrence’s flawless clean sweep of wins not only secured him his fifth win of the season but also extended his championship lead, amassing a commanding 210 points from 10 races so far.
The Australian’s closest rival, Webb, struggled to match Lawrence’s pace this time around but remains second on 189 points, while Sexton remains in contention with 185 points.
“It was pretty cool, and Lars [Lindstrom] told me after the race that the last person [to sweep a Triple Crown] was Kenny and it was on a Honda, too,” Lawrence said.
“So it’s kind of cool to keep that ritual going with the Honda, going 1-1-1 … That track was gnarly, it can kind of catch you at any moment.
“It was scary riding next to someone in the rhythm because you’re just – you’re trying to stay as straight as possible and it just kind of, it could catch you off guard pretty quickly… The track was gnarly but I think it creates some good racing.”
SX250 EAST CLASS
In the 250 East class, McAdoo emerged as the victor with a consistent 1-2-3 performance, solidifying his position as a contender in the championship battle.
Following closely behind was last week’s winner Tom Vialle, securing second place with a 4-3-1 scorecard, while Haiden Deegan rounded out the top three with 2-1-6 results.
McAdoo’s triumphant win in the 250SX class marked his first victory of the 2024 season and his first since the 2022 Arlington Supercross.
Despite facing stiff competition, McAdoo demonstrated unwavering consistency throughout the three-race format, clinching victory in the opening race and securing second place in Race 2 behind Deegan.
In the final race, Frenchman Vialle stormed ahead to claim the holeshot and cruise to victory, but McAdoo’s stellar performance in the overall standings remained unscathed.
With a composed 1-2-3 finish, McAdoo sealed the deal for the overall win, while Vialle settled for second overall with 4-3-1 scores. Despite a challenging start, Deegan showcased resilience, charging back to sixth place and securing third overall.
With the competition heating up, McAdoo and Vialle are engaged in a close battle for the championship, as the points standings now stand at McAdoo leading with 98 points, followed closely by Vialle with 96 points, and Pierce Brown trailing behind with 87 points.
With a commanding 21-point lead in the SX450 championship, Lawrence’s dominance shows no signs of waning as the series heads to Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, for the next round on March 23.
